So I noticed some type of transparent growths on the outter stalks of my zoanthid colonies. They look like they are attached by a fine filament. Attached to the filament looks like a transparent hollow cylinder shape that flow in the current. At first I thought maybe the colony was shedding but these things are very hard to blow off and tough to suck off. Any ideas on what this could be? It seems like the zoanthid colony is being bothered by whatever this stuff is.

I'm trying to get a good photo for reference. I have a pretty good video but it keeps telling me an error occurred when trying to upload.

Hydroids possibly. They can take many shapes and can irritate Corals and even grow on Corals.

Here's a link to the video. The quality looks a lot better on my phone.

I say hydroids. I think there are some called bell shaped hydroids or bell hydroids.

Usually they go away if they are not getting food. You can also tweeze them out to help speed things up.

I've noticed an explosion of these things since I started using some powdered Coral Foods. I'm guessing that could possibly be a part of the explosion of their numbers. It all started when I noticed these string like filaments that could extend and retract themselves. I think I have a good picture of one I'll post.

Yep. Just try to starve them as much as possible and pick out any that are bothering the Corals. You may have to do this a lot until they go away. Ultimately it is a “too much food” issue.

@WV Reefer That's exactly what I'll do. Thanks for the advice.
