Nice looking Chalice's and good growth! Do you feed them?
Thank man!
Yes, I do target feed my chalices in "Chalice Domination lol Tank"
Its 13.5 In deep, just for this purpose.
I feed cyclop-eeze, coral frenzy, reef-roids, reef chili, nano reef coral food, oyster feast, arcti pods all mixed together.
1 hour after the lights go off, let it sit for 30 min, then turn all the flow back to normal.

WWC Rainbow Echinata. this thing GLOWS under LED!!! Frag I picked up from CFM today, LOVE IT!!!

Yes, its getting out of control! Now I see why everybody told me to get the biggest tank in the firat place.
28g, 55g, 70g...just keeps getting bigger...
I keep softies in 28g, big chalice colonies in 55g, and highend chalices in my new 70g chalice domination tank.
Not a lfs but got most of the collection I wanted on chalice at the moment!

Just read through all 23 pgs and you've got an amazing collection.
Now that you've changed your chalices from under the T-5s to LEDS.. do you like it better? Hows the growth & color in comparison to the T5s?

That enhinata is sweet!!

I know this isnt my thread, but my chalices grow so so so so much better under leds than under t5's.

Thanks man!
I love the new LED fixture I got from reefkoi, blue really makes everything POP!
I did a lot of research and compaired different LED lightings, and the price the vendors provide their product was extremely reasonable at the moment.
Main reason for me going LED was that most of my collections zoa/paly and chalices. Get mixed reviews on sps good and bad, but was not in my consideration for choosing LED since I don't have them that much.
For growth, its hard to compair with T5 at the moment. Reason is,

-my 55g T5 tank had no sump, nano skimmer compaired to the size of the tank, hang on filter that I used for frash water.
-T5 setting is running for 3 years, so I guess tank itself is very stable. Never had crush.
-Did not target feed.

Chalice domination tank
-Up and running from December last year, slowly moved chalice collections from 55g. All the testing shows normal, but I still think its new tank, have to keep testing everyday
-It 13.5In depth for target feeding that I do everyday.
-Because its shallow, I had to hang the light much higher, since light will be much stronger without water to mitigate the intensity.
-Run the lights much less. 6 hours of blue, 4 hours of white. So blue is on first, then hour later white is on, after 4 hour white is off and blue run 1 more hour before all the lights off. I get complete no light at 8pm, 9pm I target feed all my chalices, 10pm I blow off what is not consumed so to clean the skin of the chalice(I had experienced shadings on the skin at first when I forgot to do so. Left the foods sitting on the chalice without the flows off for 6 hours)
-LED is very STRONG, especially with shallow tank such as mine, and when most of the collections chalices.
-This tank has a sump which I didn't have on my 55g.
-Skimmer which pulls a lot of gunk. But more importantly, chalice requires a lot of oxygen in the water, which water change will not have provided them.

All the above affected the growth rate in my chalices. Im sure there's more.
So I do see a lot of growth in chalices in my new tank, but I can't say its because I changed from T5 to LED.

I still love my 55g simple system where I keep big colonies that I get from LFS(LFS corals, I consider them as wild collection since LFS brings in their stuff from wholesalers, and I usually buy the coral the day LFS stocks them in their tank, meaning it is less then 8 hours from wholesalers to my tank) . I experienced brown/bleached out colonies color up nicely over time under T5's. T5 is proven lighting system.

Hope this helped:tongue:

That Rainbow Echinata sick right? Just had to get it!
And your always welcome to chip in on the discussions, really appreciate it!!!

Man, that rainbow is sick! I picked up an orange one from them myself.
Yes, WWC had some nice collection.
I planned not to go crazy on corals this time, but I just couldnt get my eyes off this pice out of all the rest.
Went over to their booth more then 5 times, every time this was the brightest in their tank, couldnt risk someone else pulling the trigger.

Thanks so much for the info. I know its hard to pinpoint what exactly is causing the differences in the new tank but regardless their good changes..

No problem!
I'm beginning to think there's no prefect answer in the hobby. You just have to do a lot of research, readings, ask the follow hobbyiests, and most of all trial and error!
All the systems different, just have to find which one works best for you.
And know the limit as to how far you can and willing to put into the hobby, keeping the basic at the same time.
Yes I think I still have lot to learn in this hobby and thats what makes this great!
happy reefing!
