I have some larger acan colonies that have something going on... check out the pics I have attached. Two issues:
1. Part of the skin of the acan is inflated and pulling off the skeleton. I think there must be some kind of fluid underneath? It’s happening the worst in the pictured acan, but is also happening in various spots on other acans - the larger ones. Other acans are doing good and not doing this at all.
2. There are what look to be small worms with two filter feeding tentacles sticking thru the acans flesh at various spot - as seen in the attached video. They build a small black soft tube… I knocked the tubes off a couple days ago so they’re not big in the picture or the video.
What I have done the last month or so:
1. Tested most parameters, bought all the Hana digital tests, everything tests normal. Phosphate 0.02 alkalinity 8.8 ph 8.0 salt 33 temp 78-79 a few others I don’t remember but all normal.
2. Replaced all the RO filters - testing 0 ppm.
3. Water changes - some big some normal, don’t see any difference.
4. Dips in revive (2 or 3)
5. Tried moving different spots, sand rocks... they used to be all big and happy in the spot they are in...
6. Superglued a couple holes on the bottom that maybe there could be a worm in.
7. Ran a lot of carbon in a reactor - read this may help.
Lighting is 2 t5 bulbs, and a blue LED reef brite. Tank is a 20g with 10g sump with chaeto (kessil), skimmer. Only fish in the tank when this happened was a fire fish. Added two clowns. Never have seen any foul play from the fish. Flow is the return and an mp10. I feed the corals every other day or so small lps pellets or reef roids.
The tank is young, about 3-4 months old. Around the time these issues surfaced, I was gone for a week or so. When I came back, the tank didn’t look too good... had some brown hair algae growing. I think what caused it was these small flies - our home opens up to a mountainous area in the back, and my mother in law likes to leave the doors open... so these little flies would be on the surface of the water dead.
Doesn’t explain the worm things though...
Any ideas as to what I should try?
Should I cut my larger acans and see if there is some pest inside? The smaller ones don’t have these issues.... super glue the holes the worm things are in? I’m nervous I will get the glue on the acan if I try this....
Appreciate any help! My first post
