.... well, other than chaeto of course.

I remove about a 5 gallon bucket (loose, not packed) of it from my refugium every month. Always happy to give it away, though mostly it goes into the compost pile. If the latter, I always feel the need to pick though the chaeto to 'save' any animals that call it home. Mini brittle stars and bristle worms mostly, but the occasional snail or baby bangai. Case in point today .....

Nice, great diversity.

I really respect hobbyist that take the time to pick through and get all the good guys out of chaeto. I always feel a tad bad when I can not get all the pods and limpets out of my filter socks or foam, even sponges. :-)

I just stared my reef tank so haven't needed to pitch cheato yet but on my planted tanks I always siphon into a net in case I get a trumpet snail or shrimp

If you started a Reef tank with "dry" live rock, I suppose you wouldn't have any of this diversity?

Dunno, never started a tank with dry rock - seems to rather defeat the purpose of having a reef tank (well, to me at least).
