Some goodies I found in my dip water. I decided to take it into lab and check it out under the scope. Unfortunately didn't have a camera attached the the one I was using so pics are from me holding my smartphone up to the eye piece. Enjoy!

That is so frickin' cool! When I took bio 101 last year looking at living organisms under the scope was the best thing ever. I even got a microscope for Christmas last year due to how much I loved it. How much magnification was needed to see these guys?

Oh I think I had either the 10x or 25x lense so times the eyepiece at 10x would be either 100x or 250x...not sure which I was using though

Very nice! What kind of lab do you work in?
Thanks, I'm in a biochem/micro lab. We do a lot of cell culture and mass spec. I on the other hand am doing protein structural work looking at post translational glycan modifications in autoimmune disease for my thesis.

nice SEM images! I'll have to try looking at some of my dip water on the cryo EM. Not sure if I'll get anything as good as those SEM images though. I always loved how you get nice depth and resolution with SEM.

I'd imagine most things in our reef would be too big to look at under plunge frozen conditions, but who know what kind of protiens or viruses might be in there. Time to fire up the vitrobot!

Very cool pics man! Very possible that the 3rd pic is a flatworm of some sort. If it came off a SPS frag you might want to keep an eye out for bite marks.

Thanks for the heads up. I can actually say for certain my system is AEFW free however it could be another flatworm that may not be good. To me it looks more like an arthropod of some sort, but I did have the benefit of seeing it in person rather than some crummy photo.

True true, it still would be cool just to see if we saw anything though. We have a vitrobot too...lol. Ours is a bit temperamental.
