Hello, I have been running the Triton method but am not happy with the results, so I am returning to water changes,

I am now wondering what I should have in my sump now that 14 gallons of Cheato will be removed, I will keep a small amount but then I have a large space for a skimmer, heater and media reactor. feel I should put more in there!

I was wondering what others do with the space?

Thanks

Paul

My sump consists of a a sock holder(only use it a few hours after maintenance day), skimmer, heater, small pump for GAC reactor, extra live rock, small wad of chaeto, probe holder for the apex probes, and a return pump.

What more do you need?

Pretty much the same stuff as others have mentioned...Sock Holder, Skimmer, return pump, two heaters, and space where I put 1-2 TLF reactors when I want to run GFO, GAC or both.

My display tank is 115 gallons and I have a 175 gallon sump. The sump is filled with 125 gallons of water and about 210 of rock and three varieties of macro algae. As far as equipment goes, I have two Kessil grow lights, a tunze ATO, heaters, and two media bags filled with activated carbon. Oh, and I have two Vectra 2 return pumps.

Skimmer, kalkwasser stirrer, 2x 100w heaters, grape calurpa, marine pure bio balls, a sponge block (to prevent calurpa from getting to return pump), return pump, apex probe sand 2x wager level float sensors for ATO.

2 filter socks, some Marine Pure spheres, skimmer, 2 pod hotels, a chunk of chaeto, a led fudge light(submerged), return pump, and a heater. Its not as crowded as it sounds lol

DIY 10 gal sump. Filer sock, heater, media reactor (activated carbon, can add gfo if needed) basket of rubble rock with cheato, creates semi-cryptic and cryptic zones for filter feeders, cheap LED light, Ph and Temp probe for apex, ATO float switched and return line, Float switch for return pump (from HD, cuts off power to pump is sump level gets too low). Under cabinet puck LED for when I need to see in there. If I had more room I would add a skimmer.

My build here in and over the sump I have Clarisea filter roll, Aquamaxx reactors, heaters, Marine Pure balls, Nyos skimmer, Vectra pump, Apex probes and sensor, and I will be adding chaeto possibly.

2 heaters, socks and filter baskets for carbon and phosguard (when needed), Chaeto, Seachem Matrix, Skimmer and return pump, AI Prime Fuge light for chaeto, earthing probe.
All the above keeps my tank happy

Left side - filter sock to rock rubble - through refuguim hosting caulerpa mexicana. Left side is also intake for ATO and calcium drip (Milwaukee pH Probe). Right side, filter sock to skimmer, skimmer dumps to center chamber. Right side hold APEX probes. Center holds 500W and 300W heater and fan. Use to run a phosban into the center - but moved this to the QT. I just push some extra water through a filter sock here.

Looks like I also keep my hockey sticks in the center...nothing I can't fix with a hockey stick.

My sump exits from the center and pushes thorough a manifold.

Wow! Thanks all, basics seem to the usual equipment with a few extras. Lots to think but basically open season for anything.

thanks for the ideas

Im using ATI Essentials Pro which is an alternative balling method similar to Triton. My sump is broken into 3 sections plus a remote fuge:

Section one - Drain: 2 filter socks and dual dosing ports.
Port 1- is for Essentials Pt2
Port 2-Phosphorus

Section two- Skimmer and heater and 4 dosing ports:
Port 1: Essentials Pt1
Port 2: ATO
Port 3: not is use
Port 4: Auto Water change port: Water Removal

Section three- Return pump, trident testing line and 1 dosing port
Port 1: Auto Water change port: Fresh SW

I have a remote fuge section with 1 dosing port: Miracle mud and chaeto
Port 1: Sodium nitrate

7" filter sock, skimmer, heater, return pump, carx, 500gph quiet one keeps detrius suspended, and 3 liters of eheim substrate pro in a mesh bag, small reactor with 1 cup rox.
No baffles too.
