What's killing my coral??

I work at my lfs, and when I came in today, three torch corals and one trachyphyllia are looking rough. and the trach is dead. would it be a deficiency? or maybe some sort of worm or nudi?

If those were just imported/shipped in I'd say you have an infection or parasite on your hands. Isolate them as already suggested and try dipping them to slow it down. Also if you're testing with 6 in 1 strips at an LFS that will be causing problems, but that can be another conversation...

They came in over a week ago, so still pretty new.. From what I understand after doing some reading today, I believe that they have that brown jelly disease. Looks just like it from pictures i've found online. they also should have been placed in a lower flow area, I'm sure that really didn't help. They got the dead stalks sawed off, and are placed by themselves now. As for the 6 in 1 strips, they aren't the only way we test lol. We typically use Sera brand test kits. I do a bi monthly full panel. Our coral system that they're in reads absolutely perfect every time, I really don't think this has anything to do with water parameters. if i wasn't juggling customers, I would have tested just in case.

So as far as the trachy that didn't make it, i think the torches were releasing their stinging tentacles, and i'm sure his septa ended up revealed through some sort of warfare, and with that Gyre pump in there, I'm sure that'll rip him right up :[

Well, being new they probably caught infection from a combination of shipping stress/damage from shipping and it spread. A week after trans-shipping is still brand new, that's why you're getting exposed septa and other recession. Good job isolating them (hopefully in a different system because it will still spread in the same system) you should try to dip them if they show any more signs of tissue recession. For the 6 in 1 comment, you shouldn't have led with that it came across as your only way of testing.

Thanks, good to know the brain probably just died from infection. Anything in particular you recommend for dipping? We have Revive by Two Little Fishies, and it's what I'm told to dip everything in, when it comes in before adding it to the tank.

Pick up some lugol's solution. The iodine really seems to help the LPS when it comes to infection.

Agreed, an iodine based dip is usually what I use too. Although I've had some successes with coral RX and Revive they don't seem to do as much, but that could also be my distrust in the abilities of "natural" dips.

I think the lugols/CoralRX alternation works best. We use tea tree oil in the industry im in to treat minor skin irritation and infection with success.

We have reef dip by seachem in Stock. opinions? if it were MY coral, i'd go spend my money on lugol's. if you're opinion is to not use reef dip, I'll ask boss man if I can run to the store.

Flip the bottle,and look for iodine in the ingredient list. [emoji6]

Seachem Reef dip is iodine/iodide. It's what I use it will work just the same. You can double the dose if needed.
