What's my branching hammer doing?

In the past two or three days, I've noticed this protruding from my hammer (branching) anyone tell me if its just a mouth or something else?? Thanks

Some people believe bubbles like that is an indication that the coral might be splitting, but I've never experienced this with any of mine though. (and they got big) Definitely keep an eye on it, but usually these things just kind of go away on there own without doing any harm. There's a picture of pretty much the same thing in the link below just for comparison.

I bought a 5 headed hammer coral 3 years ago (same color as yours) and have fragged over 75 heads off it, and in that time I have never seem anything like that. Very strange......
 
I got this piece from Elegant Reef. It's color is awesome and it's very happy where it's at. I have two other hammers and nothing like this.

I've read a couple articles (thx @cloak ) and they say different things. I'll try to get a pic when the bubbles at its peak. But, I just got my wavemaker setup a couple weeks ago and all my corals are doing great things. Just hope this is one of them as suggested.
