Whats on the Live rock ?

Hi everyone
Building a new Nano and just cleaning out a piece of recent live rock i had from a LFS to try to remove pest anemone and i noticed a small section of the rock (approx 4-5 cm ) has a glistening shiny black colour with what look likes hairs .

It doesnt look inviting so i thought i would check if this is something i ought to remove !!

having just prodded a little bit it is across the rock itself hard - would have thought someone had painted my rock and stuck hairs on it, although it feels softer at the 2 farthest ends
