@Randy Holmes-Farley what exactly is peroxide salt? I was seeing if maybe I could buy something like this without the brand name attached to it thinking it would be cheaper. I gotta buddy and seen others swear by this just in case.

Polylab Medic - is just Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) in a granulated form.

I actually dose H2O2 in my seahorse tank....every day (to assist with removing organics that lead to harmful bacteria)- and add some once a week, to my main reef tank (for ich management).

It has its benefits (H2O2 that is).

Polylab Medic - is kinda hit/miss - for Ich. It won't remove it from your system...will only assist in what's on the actual fish.

I have a UV. I had lost my entire tank to what I assumed might be velvet. But fallow is done and I'm terrified but I honestly don't want to QT. I've heard people say this works great if everything is caught early.

DarthChaos is right, it's basically powdered hydrogen peroxide. Adding H2O2 will raise ORP in your tank. While the theory is that higher ORP can oxidize disease in the water column, there's no conclusive evidence on that. More importantly, people in the know like the fish disease expert here on R2R isn't convinced that it works.

People have been running ozone to boost ORP in their aquariums for years. When I worked at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, we ran ozone on basically every big display. If increased ORP really prevented fish disease, the hobby and industry at large would have realized it by now and it would be our "magic bullet" against ich, velvet, etc. That hasn't happened though.

If you're looking for a magic bullet to avoid QT, I don't think this is it.

On the original question of what it is, I cannot be sure, but I would guess polyplab peroxide salt is sodium peroxide, Na2O2. They claim it is also pH buffered, so it may have something else in it to prevent the pH rise associated with the release of hydrogen peroxide. That buffer might be baking soda.

Na2O2 + 2H2O ---> 2Na+ + 2OH- + H2O2

Fair enough. However, h202 is more of an afterthought. "Oops, I have disease in my tank and need a way to manage it"

Having 1st hand experience with ich and velvet usually wise people up to the importance of quarantine.

Your statement suggests to me that you're not quite there yet. You're still willing to roll the dice again and see if you can beat the odds.

heck no I ain't ready for it lol..... Listen I don't even want to buy clowns or put fish in my tank currently from fear lol..... I'll be setting up a qt or buying fish from a reputable company that quarantines fish.
