What's so great about chalices?

Chalices look kinda cool I guess, but why are they so expensive most of the time? do they grow slow, are they rare, or do they get up and dance when the lights go off?

Honestly I like the growth patterns and contrasting colors. Usually don't have to worry about them melting like zoas.

I think owning at least one chalice is great, so you can talk with your buddies how a couple of years ago what the miami hurricane chalice was going for on e-bay.

Mine dance also and tend to be very photogenic! Lol and +1 on flavor of the moment! I'd have to say only the real nice ones are expensive as they tend to grow slower than the common ones that are cheap.

Chalices are mostly popular because of the great color they have. Some of the brightest fluorescent colors come from chalices.

I have said this about a lot of corals, but it's funny how things will grow on you. Some corals I used to love, now just dont really do it for me anymore, but I'm sure that these feelings come and go. Just recently my love for zoas and paly's has come back in full force. And one of the main reasons for it is that they suddenly started exploding and spreading in my tank as of late.

Yep, I have seen this with several different types of corals. A certain kind gets popular and then the prices go way up.

It's the colors!! There are some beautifully colored chalices out there!
That being said... acros are the best!

I love my chalices. There are some patterns in chalices that you get in no other coral I've seen. For instance the pinstripe chalices.

Well it sometimes seems to me that their beauty and price rise at disproportionate rates. And to your last point I would add that friends don't let friends buy kenya tree.

Seems from the responses so far that everyone has their own reasons, and I have to admit that seeing them in person helped me gain an appreciation for them.

I don't know what :roll: actually means, but yeah, seeing Jay's chalices yesterday changed my view of them somewhat. I really don't get to see too many tanks that aren't in a fish store.
