What's the average reefers monthly budget?

The average new car payment is $734 a month!!! Family and friends will look at me like I'm nuts when I drop hundreds, or even 1k+, on a nice coral. But these same people will pay well over $500 dollars a month for transportation. Personally, I decide not to have a car payment and I work a little extra in order to cover my hobby expensive. So I ask everyone if they have a monthly budget for the reef tank?

$0. I've reached a point that the hobby is 100% self sustained (financially), including electricity and water. I off set all incurred expenses by selling coral frags.

I'm in the process of building a new tank so for now I'd rather not think about what I've spent the last few months lol.

It varies. I’ve gone a few months without adding coral and just recently added a Mandarin Dragonet after several months of no new fish.

I spent about $800 last month on a ReefMat and Red Sea ATO as there was an anniversary sale at my LFS and I’ve been wanting to eliminate socks and have more water in my top off than the stock Reefer 350 came with.

I’ve also cut back to monthly water changes - so saving on Salt.

All in all - I’m probably averaging $100-200 per month.

See my build thread title…. (But an abyzz pump as i got fed up with the reef octo… and a new bash sea sump… ). I may as well admit it - some guys have a midlife crisis and go buy an expensive sports car I being the village Idiot restarted my reef obsession.
