let's apply testless cycling and aquarium control regarding ammonia


it is possible to predict what ammonia does in your reef from day 1 cycle to the day you take the tank down and never test for ammonia not one single time, in a display reef tank.


if you want to manage quarantine systems which require ammonia testing/benefit by it due to variability, get hanna

I recommend not having one though, you'll benefit far better with predictive control. Saves money too, doesn't fail ever. I'm 21 years reefing with never using ammonia testing start to current tank


There's only one cause for your ammonia being out of control: dead fish left to rot. Ammonia can't rise before your fish kill in a display, it rises only after. Leave no dead fish to rot and your tank will never lose ammonia control. Apply disease controls from the disease forum + sound hardware design to avoid dead fish.

What about left over food? In the sand? In the overflow box? In the sump? That wont cause ammonia spikes?

No. When a kid dumps food in the tank in bulk you just remove the food, the testing doesn't help. Regular feeding can't spike ammonia

If there isn't dead fish laying around there isn't an ammonia problem.

Because i have like food in the back of overflow i cant reach was worried about ammonia spike there

Then you clean it, having excess food doesn't benefit your tank piled back there. It can't overcome your ammonia, only a one time dump in by a kid, a months worth. Yours will be an algae issue

There isn't a time other than dead fish laying about that ammonia rises, clean your tank before it kills your fish, preemptively.

Your only need is to clean that which you know needs it. Get back there creatively and fix it, make a curved siphon hose if needed, mcguyver that stuff.

Im confused english is not my first language clean my tank before it kills my fish? Whats that means? I thought that wont cause overspike my ammonia
