What's the deal with IceCap?

I just got the Icecap 36XL sump. I've never seen a sump build with every single thing I needed in it. I plan to use this now and for many upgrades. Best part I have a 12 gallon H2O reservoir which i can convert into a frag tank if wanted.

That this sweet! I'm thinking about one of their sumps now. I may tie my display into a frag tank and

I have the 36" and love it but I should have got a smaller one no room under stand.

Anyone can recommend a good ATO for the 36XL? reservoir is next to the sump return area.

I am leaning toward a simple float switch from marinedepot and hooked up to a emergency float valve. I like their design where the float valve is covered in acrylic. More over I plan on replacing them every 18 months and I trust this mention more than having a $200 setup stretched to 5+ years.

Any suggestions. ?

How cool is this. I bought the skimmer few months back, Before I decided on the sump. When I got the sump I was not happy with all the crazy colors so I ordered few blue pipes for $24 and now I have this crazy cool sump =)

I actually own the new Icecap ATO and have been running it for a couple weeks now. It seemed kinda strange at first and I'm not sure why but has been working flawless since. I'm not sure if it was red/blue fuge light but I don't think so. I'm wondering if it just had to run a cycle to learn the low level and high levels? After a few hours it seemed sorted out. The dual optical sensors are nice and the pump is very strong. I'm running it on my 75-gallon with 25 gallon sump for total water volume of 100 gallons. I use a 10-gallon tank as my top off water storage. I have a video on youtube under my name. I'd definitely buy again if I needed another ATO for another tank.

Been using icecap k2-50 skimmer for a few months and I love it, great price, well built and it works REALLY well

I was considering buying this but figured a simple float switch from marinedepot hookedup to a emergency float valve would be ideal and low profile. Moreover, I like the acrylic casing they have in the float switch and $70 price tag. If I had a larger resvoir or running kal I could see the need to invest in a $200 ATO but would you suggest just buy the icecap ATO? I strongly believe its probably as reliable as the tunze at more friendly price tag.
MY thinking is simple - have something simple where I can replace the pump, switches and float with ease and frequency.

Since the icecap sump has a 1/2" hole on the lid for the 12 gallon resovoir. I was thinking about just installing an adjustable float valve directly on the lid with a quick connect for whenever I need to fill the 12 gallons. I see metal on alot of these adjustable float valves and wondering if I should be concerned about rusting overtime.

Has anyone done this with the icecap sumps?

Float valve such as this one.

Ashish how are you plumbing the filter socks with intake water?

Not sure if I understand the question.. The sump has a drain chamber and then it rises to 2x4" filter sock holes. I don't use filter socks anymore since they clog daily, I Just have a black pre-filter sponge that covers both holes

Thanks. On the intake you have two lines coming in with one having a ball valve. What are you using the ball valve to control? Slow down intake water?

Also there is another post of yours. There are some fittings in the pics that I was needing. I will put a reply on it.

Thanks for the help.

You had me confused I thought this was the other thread lol. The valve used on the the intake is for a bean animal style overflow. Meaning the first valve is adjusted so its a full siphon so no air to make noise. Check out the ghost overflow you'll see what I mean.. I also have an emergency drain

I know this thread is a few months old now, but I am planning on purchasing this exact same sump and going bean animal so would love to hear what you think about it now that you’ve used it for a while. Also, where did you end up routing the emergency drain? I had planned on skimmer section.

Great sump had it for almost 2 years. The emergency drain I just have it going to the refugium area.. I hard plumbed it but wish I didnt as flex tubing would have been lighter and more low profile.
