OK I have just worked out that my ATO is cutting in everytime I turn the return pump to feed mode.... I couldnt understand why my ATO reservior was going down so fast so I put some time in and watch what actually happens. Return into feed...all good... once the return starts again( no soft start) the duhro return lags. this allows my floats switch to drop and activate the pump.. it take about 2-3 minutes for the tank to rebalance itself to the normal operating levels in the chambers...
Any ideas how to stop this without wiring in a second float switch in the return chamber.
I run my overflow about 1" below the emergency return, when the return starts after feed the emergency comes into play just.

Stop cutting the flow when you feed, simple solution.

Seriously, let your fish get some exercise chasing the food. It's also more natural for them to chase their food.

What problem is this creating? How much is your salinity dropping with this additional water?

Maybe slow down flow from ato so your tank level balances before level gets too high
