It looks like corraline took over the area that was receding, but the polyps are still intact. Interesting for sure. It is hard to tell from the pics, but is the area the same color as other corraline in your tank? If not, scratch my idea and let's see what others think...

Not sure, but that's pretty cool. I'd want it to stay that way! :xd:

Almost looks like it is grafted into the monti. Is it just a color variation within the monti itself? Are you sure it is something growing on it? Can't really tell from the pic.

thanks for the responses...i have tried so many times blowing it off..it seems to be a flesh...i am not sure if its other flesh but it blends in to the monti's flesh...i have not tried scraping it...it would have been sooo cool if color is red or pink!

IMO I think it's cooler because it purple rather than red...red/green grafts are already out there. It looks like there are some purple specs outside of the large area (not the rim), is that true or just the picture?

If it does not blow off with a turkey baster, I would say it has grafted with the nearby Superman looking monti. The polyps in the affected area look too healthy to say it is receding in that spot. How long has it taken to develop that coloration?

i dont really know how long it took for it to color up like this...i basically got this monti through a trade and the person i traded said it got stung by a frogspawn...so i still took it was planning on putting a clam in middle and let the healthy edges just grow out,,,but then i have not found a clam i like...the colony bounce back and colored up but i notice the dark spot,i keepp blowing it off,i thought its a die off or a dead part but then when i look closely while taking pics, the polyps are out(as u can see in the pic)...i do not have a superman monti...u are probably looking at my red carpet in the background :)

Oops, my bad. I was so intrigued by the color of the monti that I took too quick of a look at your carpet and thought it was a Superman monti. Either way, if the monti keeps doing what it is doing, you will have a cool piece.
