The first chamber of my sump seems to be growing this pinkish red stuff at the bottom of it and on the sides. At first I thought it might be coraline algae but then it started growing much faster than it has in display. Any idea what it is?

Can you take a turkey baster or something similar and blow it off easily? Or does it stay put?

Well I dont have a Turkey baster but filling a syringe and blowing at it didnt do anything, but I can easily rub it with my finger

If it’s cyano, you could even wave your hand over it in the water and it’ll dissipate into the water and then grow back. Might need better pics or microscope analysis if you want a true ID.

Looks like coraline algae to me!

Edit: Coraline algae will grow faster/slower in different areas of your system. It all depends on lighting intensity, spectrum, and water flow. Some species/colors prefer different environments than others which is why it may seem different than the stuff in your DT

Well I had my 8 year old bust out his microscope which was a whole lot of fun managed to get some baby copepods in the chaeto for him. But it wasnt strong enough to give much of a picture of the pink stuff. Best one I could get on the side with my phone too sorry I'm bad at pictures lol.
