We had bought this tank used,,,and I thought it was going pretty well but within the last week our sand started turning brownish in some areas and seeing a few growths. The red stuff was coming in and from my research I thought it was called Coraline, which should be normal and good? But my wife dont thinks that is what it is,She said it might be red hair algae?

Also the sand is turning a rusty color in some areas, from the reading we did it might be due to our lights being too bright,or on too long,Or over feeding? We did buy a new set of Radion xr15's and not really sure how long to use them but I just selected a preset schedule which gives me 7hrs of the highest light of 83% power, and the rest of the time its either half power or bluelight/moonlight for a total of 12hrs.

We just added a gfo/carbon reactor earlier this week, hoping to help clear up some problems.
Salt is a touch high,PH is 8.0 and we have new test kits for calcium and alk. and both came out just about perfect. Any thoughts on what our problems might be?

If it can easily be wiped off, it's cyanobacteria. And I would try and see if it can be wiped off and extracted from the tank. The rest of the brown dusting is called diatoms. Typical with new setups.

If it's a small pieceof rock you can take it out of the tank and use an eye dropper to put a little peroxide on it. Let it sit for 5 mins and place back in the tank. The next day it will be gone. Cynobacteria can be remedied by getting better flow, less nutrients and as a last resort using red slime remover.
