What's growing on my chaeto? New tank and is in cycle mode. Chaeto doesn't seem to be growing much.

Do I start over or let it run?

Looks like cyno to me. Where are you at with your tank cycling? Are you display lights on yet?

Tank has been up for a month. I just put the rock in last week. And the display lights are running 2-3 hrs a day on blue and 5 on the full setting. As far as how long it’s been cycling from the water test from last week, I would say it’s been in the cycle 2 weeks now.

So I’m in the process of setting up my next tank. I’m doing dry rock and using dr Tim’s fishless cycle. My plan is to use a refugium as well. I won’t be turning on the display lights for at least 60 days. I also plan to cover the tank in cardboard so as I can limit any light getting to the rocks and sand. I’m hoping this will cause the refugium to flourish and get ahead of any nusicense algae growth. I also plan to populate the tank with pods and micro fauna. During this time I’m hoping they will help knock down any growth while building up their numbers. From there it will be snails and then a shrimp. I plan to go slowly so the bacteria can build their numbers between additions. Brs is where I got this idea. Seems to be working for them so far.

This is only in my fuge nothing in the tank

Any chance you have a microscope? If so take a sample and see if you can identify what it is. As for starting over with more chaeto, may not be a bad idea. Have you noticed more growth or a reduction in its amount? If you do remove it, make sure to turn your pump off so any piece that comes loose doesn’t end in your display.
