The base has this area of tan/brown which has slowly enlarged over the past few weeks. Any thoughts? As you can see the remainder of the Coral looks healthy

Is that one NPS? if so, have you been feeding it enough? If you have, the normal post parameters, changes, livestock, pests, etc responses are required.

NPS?

This AMs numbers

Phos .07 Hanna LR
Alk 9.6 Hanna. Have had some alk swings
Ph 8.1-8.2 apex recently calibrated
SG 1.025. Did have an SG swing to malfunction of ATO. SG went up to 1.027 but I corrected this almost immediately back to 1.025
Mg 1450 Hanna
Ammonia nitrite 0 API
Nitrate 0 API. Selfert coming today

This is a Biocube 29 that is running for 6 months. My tank parameters have not been stable for the past few weeks due to a comedy of newby errors My phosphates spiked to .25 My concern is that this is STN.

The tank gets live photo daily and a mix of oyster, reef roids and reef frenzy 3x/week

NPS = Non Photosynthetic. I would wager its due to the lack of stability you mentioned but hopefully some more experienced gorg keepers will chime in.

Yeah it's not an SPS coral, but almost reminds me of base up STN on acropora. I'd wager there are plenty of stickheads that have experience with these, good luck, someone will chime in!

Okay, here's my opinion but I have no experience with gorgs, or any NPS for that matter. There was clearly die off at some point at the base. Looking at the edge of the die off portion, it doesn't seem that it is fresh die off, so maybe it has recovered. If this is truly one of the NPS gorgs (some species are photosynthetic I believe) then it needs to be fed, phyto... I think. I have no idea on how often or how much or if target fed or broadcast. The Soft Coral Subforum might yield better results, or wetwebmedia, or um RC has a NPS category.
Good luck
