What's up with my hammers??

So it's been almost two weeks since my hammers started looking like this. It's weird because they were good in the afternoon and by the evening they started looking like this. What could have happened?? Tested water. Parameters checked out on point. I did scrub some gha off the rocks with a toothbrush earlier in the day. So I don't know if that could have had anything to do with it.

How long have you had these corals and what kind of lighting do you have. From past experience with Hammers and Frogspawn this looks to me like to much light quickly or possibly a alk spike.

No change in flow or lighting.

Nope. They've been sitting in that spot for a while. It's weird because they went from looking like in the before pictures to looking how they are now within a few hours.

The big hammer I've had it for three months now. And the smaller one for two. The lighting is the fluval marine and reef led strip supplemented with a blue led strip. No alk spike. Params are all stable.

I haven't changed anything in the tank. Everything has remained the same. No new additions before or after.

There are a few possibilities.

- coral warfare- unlikely but possible.

- developing a new head- most likely as mine shrink up when about to "split"

- hungry.
- sometimes my euphyllia just do that

I have other euphyllia and they're doing just fine. Just these two that look like this that has me puzzled as to why. If they're splitting how long before they get back to normal???

3 things imo from having the same hammer for 6 years alk spike witch U said there wasnt. , pest witch there prob isnt and litterally 0 phosphates witch is usually the reason for them not opening fully

They look healthy to me sometimes they juss do that one of my head juss split into 5 so ive had a never undering bubble between all 5 sence may

I have about 7 hammers in my tank and they all seem to be moody at times.

Currently my blue one is doing same thing as yours. Just wait and see, if the rest are fine.

I had a frogspawn in my last tank to that for about a month, then one day was all fluffy with three new heads.

I also have very little PO4, but feed them very well.

I'm having the same problem, i have had my hammer and frogspawn coral for over a month now..... one day they open all the way and the other they are half close i don't have a test for phosphates or alk yet im going to get one on my next day off ....but all my other parameters are on point.....i also notice the frogspawn had it's mouth open really wide the other night not sure if its splitting up idk its my first saltwater tank

Those two chemicals are vital to know, especially KH.
Needs to be stable for lps / sps, not just spot on when you test, but stable.

Agree with / if there is a color loss, but
Quite a bit of HA in there.

Most likely hungry and possibly developing new heads??

That GHA will suck up all your no3 if it is abundant
Look into peroxide for a solution
Get going on it now as the hammer has less zooxanthellae to live off of

Aside from getting rid of the gha, would target feeding help??
