What's up with this stalk?

I was wondering if someone could tell me what is up the stalk of this paly? I know I have seen this before but I can't remember where. Is this something that will go away if I don't do anything or is there something I need to do to prevent damage to the colony. Sorry if this may have been covered in another thread wasn't sure exactly what to do a search for.

Is the colony slowly melting away? Possibly fungus?

The pic is blurry but it looks like it's popping out a lot of babies. Or it could be fungus or a sponge growing on it.

I have only had the colony for about a week. So I'll keep an eye on it. I didn't notice the strange stalk until I got the piece home since the colony had the strange stalked polyp facing the back of the tank. I did a FW dip and lugol's when I got the piece.

As far it being a fungus or sponge, I don't think it is, but could be. When the polyp retracts the abnormal stalk disappears with it.

I'll see if I can get a better picture of it in a little while.

They will turn into the regular polyps once they grow out.
