So why am i reading that you should wait 6 months to get a nem?

I have a 15 gallon tank that is bare bottom and has cycled rock. Stable params and everything......

SO why should i wait ??? Also im not new to Reef tanks or anything just wondering what your thoughts are.

Most people say to wait 6 months because your tank can have mini-cycles up to this time. As well as it takes time for everything to fully mature, and most people that are new to reefing tend to make mistakes during the first few months, and can't handle a nem going nuclear.

I got an RBTA about 2 months into my tank, and it's been thriving. It all depends on the person and the tank.

Yup yup... They require stability in the extreme. Pristine water conditions and chemistry take about 6 months to work themselves out.

Why would it take 6 months to work its self out? Im starting to think this is old school thinking. Like The watts per gallon thats been proven wrong. I cycled the rock using the fishless method. And have some rock from my main system added. I set the tank up and the next day i added some coral and my clown from my main tanks sump. Tank is BB also.

Just checked the water and i dont have anything. 0 across the board.

Why would i have a mini cycle ? Rock was fully cured

I think also the 6 month rule would pertain to brand new hobbyists who are just learning how to maintain a saltwater tank.

all new tanks can have mini-cycles. Its called new tank syndrome. Anytime you change the bio-load/add fish or a nem, a smaller tank will experience a mini-cycle. And as the rev stated, alot of that advice is also to get new reefers some experience with maintaining params, which is even harder in a small tank. If your experienced and diligent, than I say go for it, but I'd be testing often after adding the nem, you'll prob see a small cycle or 2.

Yea i believe your right about it being for new hobbyists. Theres a lot to learn as your doing it.

when i cycled the rock i was able to make it 4-6 ppm And overnight it would read 0 So im pretty confidant it gonna be good to go.
I test new tanks ever 2 days while there under a month. And always have enuf water on hand mixed to do a compleate change lol.

Well here goes im gonna buy one tonight!

You can pretty much fully stock your tank. You have enough bb built up to handle more life than your tank can ever hold.

BB will start to adjust to the smaller Bio load if you wait to long though.

I just transferred everything from my 75 to 120. All new sand, mostly new base rock, all new water. Cycled 120 for 3 weeks dosing ammonia. Cycle completed quick. Through all my coral, fish, and rbta and didn't lose one thing. I am with you on old school thinking. If you know what you're doing and monitoring closely and doing wc's every week shouldn't have any problems as I never had.

Yeah, I believe this carried over from when people use to cycle with fish, which made since because there was only enough bb for the Bio load currently in the tank.
Now we can add the whole Bio load of bb in advance, by doing fishless cycle

You would have to do a lot wrong to get a mini cycle after cycling with 5-6ppm of ammonia

+1 on old school. I also think most nems are more resilient than they get credit for. My params aren't perfect, and I have 6 happy and growing nems in my tank. They are different types of Btas, 3 rbtas, a gbta, a rainbow bta, and a purple bta with green tips.

You got that right!

20 bucks and Divers den guaranteeing health. I love living here close by. Just wish that they would have more named corals like CB and JF type. oh well least i got a nice nem. The others on the site are more and not as nice. Except the 40 buck one.... But its 2x the price.

I didn't even though they had a retail store! I bet it's amazing!! Nems are awesome! I've got a carpet, S.Haddoni, my clowns just began hosting. That's a big part of why I got into saltwater, that symbiotic behavior is awesome to watch! Assuming all goes well with yours you might wanna do a sebae nem with a clown.

I have a Condy in a 2+ Month old tank and it is doing fine. I am OCD about my param's though and test multiple times per week.

**edited becuz I can nut speel coreectuly!
