The black color on my clownfish fins is fading away. Also the front of his head is turning white. What's wrong with him? He seems to stay low by the sand at times and at times swims around normally. He is eating good. I have 2 clownfish as well.

Last checked February 22:

PH: 8.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 0
Nitrites: 0
Alk: dkH=3, meq/L=1.1

Not sure if I did the alkalinity completely right from test kit.

Do you use RO water? I've seen color loss or fade when the water has Clorine in the water

He looks very very skinny. Is he eating well?

Salitnity is very important, that can be the cause, that is what happened to me.

Do you have two other clownfish or two total? Looks like it is being beaten up and suffering some. What are the other clowns or clown?
I have one other. So 2 total. They are similar in size. The other one pecks at this one, but not a whole ton.

The best thing to do is do a major water change to try and replenish the tank , I'm seeing what looks like alot of cyano bacteria red slime and it is notorious for taking oxygen out of the water try getting some of it out when you do a water change , I'm in a battle with them also I just did my water change

The oxygen levels are probly too low in the tank

How much of a water change should I do? I have a 28gal tank doing a 5 gal change every 2 weeks.

Until the cyano is controlled, you can do lots water changes. I will at times do a 100% water change, but you have to make sure the parameters of new are similar to old. With a 28, I would honestly start with a 10g after scrubbing off the cyano. Then do another 10 in a few days. Continue till gone.

As far as the fish, do you have some air going into the water? Protein skimmer or airstone or open top with pump breaking surface of water continuously. This will help with the o2 exchange a lot. He looks unhappy, and could develop infection or issues.

I would probly scrub the cyano stir the sandbed and do half water change 14 gallons , add an air stone or a pump to add movement to the tank

I don't have a protein skimmer or anything. It's the JBJ all in one tank. I'll do a 14g change

Can you fill the tank right below the return to create agitation on the water surface ?
