Just got this from Zoafrags, opened up and this is what it looks like:

I have never seen a zoa look like this before with the rust colored spots. What do you think it could be?

Welcome to Club-Zoa rpogge2. It looks like it was getting a lot of light. Nuclear greens get speckles when they are in high light.

Yes just as JGoslee said.

Also Welcome to CZ!!!!!!! :D

honestly i think those rusty spots look kinda cool, but who knows in person could be different

Keep us posted on if they keep changing. I think they look pretty unique.

Just keep them out of intense light and all the new polyps will be solid green.

In your opinion what would be intense light?

The fun I see with zoas is it seems out of all corals just moving them around in our tanks changes the color, size, and look so much.

I have mine all the way on top under 250w and it keeps a pretty solid green with no specks... Zoafrag.com does list that they use 400w, that might be too intense if they were kept high up near those lights. :)

Its not bad, Itf the new polps it makes are solid green I would be happy to have both. I just thought perhaps it was sick. He tells me it could be high magnesium in the tank, I dont have a mg test kit, but all my other 30 or so zoa frags look fine.

Does this happen to the purple death also???? or just nuclear greens?
Ime purple deaths seem to brown out when they are in high light.

Intense light to me is within 12" or less under hallides.

My purple deaths lost color and turned brownish purple in the bottom of my tank under T5s, Nucs turned with yellow spots too.. I moved both mid hight and now starting to look better.... I did the same with my BP PPE's as well.
