What do you think may be going on with my pulsing Xenia? Everything else in the tank is doing fine. It doesn't seem like it's getting too much light or too much flow. I started a little invasive coral tank and was hoping this would grow like crazy but it's not.

I didn't think mine was growing that fast as well until one day when I was doing some maintenance and it closed up. It started with 2 branches and there's about 20 now after ~3 months. Overall it looks ~1 inch larger in diameter when it's fully opened up but it's definitely growing. Yours seems to be semi open in that photo. As I was looking for the right spot early on mine would fully close when it wasn't happy with the flow. I also notice it closes up during lights out most nights and opens back up after the lights come back on. Hope that helps.

I've noticed back when I had Xenia that it would go through random periods when it just didn't look too good. Also mine started to shrivel if the water was too clean.

Also if that's a par38 bulb, it looks really close to the water so I want to say your lighting might be too strong.

If your phosphates are low xenia will not do well, they like a dirty tank

It's probably too clean then for sure. Since it's only a 2gal tank I do about a 50% water change every two weeks. Maybe I'll back off a bit and see what happens
