I have some sick zoas and I don't know what to do. In the first pic, half of the colony is closed and some of the polyps have a pinkish/red cast to the outside. The next was fully open until day before yesterday.
The bottom pic is a zoa colony that has been dying off for a while. Now a few of the polyps have a brown fuzzy coating on them. I did have an a/c outage day before yesterday for about 16 hours and the temp went up to at least 84. I cooled the tank off and it's back to 78. The first two colonies were totally fine before the heat spike. I'm so frustrated I'm ready to give up on zoas. I've dipped with coral Rx and lugols in the past with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas???? Water parameters are as follows:

Alk: c. 175ppm
Mg: c. 1330ppm
Ca: 400-450ppm
Nitrates: 10ppm or less
SG: 1.026
Temp: 78

Lights 75% 10000k daylight white and 25% blue actinic. Recently I changed back to this after a reverse ratio, 75% actinic and 25% white, wasn't enough.

My other corals, acan lords, gsp's trumpet corals and Florida ricordea are fine. Help!!!

mine do that some time i just keep dipping every three days usuallt its baby brittle stars or one of my fish likes the taste

What do you dip them in?

i use a combo of reef dip and melafix...i got the combo from a acro aquaculturist works like a charm..everything comes off without hurting the zoas and acros...

Do you use the "regular" melafix or the melafix marine in your combo? Also what dosage do you use?

Lugols dip. Wish me luck!!!

Watching thread. Hope they get better!

Thanks! It's so weird. When I was doing everything wrong, they were growing. Lol. Lights three years old and never been changed. Bioballs and ceramic rings in sump never been cleaned. Not dosing. Go figure. As I gradually started making the tank 'better', things went awry for the zoas. New lights. Check. Much more stable water quality. Check. Better test kits. Check. Removing bioballs and ceramic rings gradually and replacing them with purigen and dr. P's nitrate reducer. Check. Nitrates still at 10ppm so some nutrients still in the water because zoas like that. Check. Mg, alk and ca at better levels. Check. Zoas dying. Check. I want to scream!!!

I've had them in the tank for 5 months. The tank was fowlr for three years before I added corals. Very established. I've heard that zoas do this but it's driving me crazy! I thought they were the easy coral!

Update. Well I dipped them in lugols and some of them are opening again, but I just can't figure this out! I know it's not nudibranches. Can anyone think of what could be doing this. I'm thinking at this point there has to be something in the tank irritating them. I've looked at night for the little snails but haven't seen any. Help!

I wouldn't worry to much zoas can be we slow to react wait a few days and if you see no change put them in a cup inside your tank to isolate them and see if that helps.
