I purchased a couple different frags of zoas about a week ago and then another one just the other day. I dipped them in some coral rx, stuck them in the tank and they all opened up very quickly and were doing great. After a few days the butt kissers closed up and now appear to be just a fluorescent speck at the mouth and not opening at all. Then I purchased some seduction zoas and they opened slightly right away and then closed up. I dont understand how some of them are doing great while others not so much if everything is identical amongst them.

How you doing tonight?

a few quick questions always help. Age of tank, lights, tank parameters. Gives us an idea of what is going on. I think I saw some hair algae so maybe some high Po4 or/and No3? Also, just wondering what was on the other plug that is empty now

The more info, maybe we can get a good fix Going.

Hey, thanks for the reply!

I honestly have no idea what my parameters are so not going to claim they are perfect. Need to go buy some test kits before I get anymore coral.
Bought the tank used which had been set up for years and I have currently had it up and running for a little over a year now.
The lights are a MH/T5 combo, 3 150W 14k bulbs with blue actinics.
As for the zoas, I have speckled kraks and pink diamonds which are doing great. The two that I lost were gb butt kissers and seductions.
I dont understand why half of them are doing great and the other 2 melted away. Was it just the luck of the draw?

Could be flow or light as well . try moving them to different areas of the tank. i have moved mine multiple times until they are happy. i have one colony has been in the tank for 2 months and still cant find the right spot for the whole to open up.

Thats a good point!
The two that melted I stuck in the same spot. Even though it is not far from the 2 that are doing great I guess its just a deadly spot.
