Well im going to start selling some frags soon and the only close place to ship with is ups..fedex is 45 minutes away....

I was wondring what is so bad about ups, because it seems like a large amount of people dont like ups to ship their livestock

I usually have more problems with Fedex delivering my packages to the wrong address! Not to say that UPS hasn't messed up some deliveries as well.

I think UPS is backed up. We received a bunch of packages last Saturday that were not Saturday delivery.

People have trouble with both companies. One is only better than the other usually depending on where you live and how far you are from major hubs. On the bright side if you live in Kentucky you are good for both since they have major hubs. I'm not sure where other ones are but we've built distribution centers in Louisville for that exact reason.

so would u all suggest me to drive 45 minutes fedex or travel 3 and ship ups..or just ask the buyer what they prefer

I have had UPS, Fedex and USPS all screw up so i rate them pretty even. USPS overnight ended up being delayed a day as they are not as dependable for overnight as the other two imo. I've had fedex deliver to the local hospital instead of my house, which was mind blowing to me, and i've had UPS drop off my coral at a neighbors house before. Each has there own pitfalls but i don't know which is the best. I know for equipment UPS is the most expensive, then its fedex, then usps. But i still prefer to use UPS as they always make it right if they damage anything and seem to handle the packages the best. For small equipment you can't beat USPS priority though.

maybe it just depends on ur location like agent462 said

I think it just depends where you live. I've never had a problem with either. Might want to ask some locals this question though...

I have shipped an Onyx clown with 2 day shipping using UPS. I went to shipyouraquatics.com and got a cheaper rate. Every time I rate Fed Ex the prices are outrageous. I don't see how people charge $50 for it...

I use both companies and if you feel better using Fedex they do have pick up service. I don't know if they would charge you extra because of how far it is from home. But you can check that out as well.

I think for as many good things people will say about one shipping company, there will be just as many bad stories. Mistakes happen, especially when you have to deal with the volume any of them do. They might only mess up 0.5% of the packages they handle, which in the light of the volume isn't that bad at all. It just really stinks when it is your package.

I use UPS to ship for my company, and ship many packages Next Day Air. I rarely have problems. We have used Fedex, they weren't bad, except some of their next day air packages aren't delivered until 3:00 in the afternoon and that is pretty useless to my customers.

I have had bad experiences with ALL of the shipping companies... I cant say that one is better than the other but I will say that Fed Ex is generally cheaper. Are you sure that the only FedEx location is 45 minutes away. There are many drop of locations for carriers. Of course you also have the option of having the coral picked up by Fed Ex for 2.00 per package. This is much cheaper than driving.

If you would like PM me your zip code, there is a good chance that something is closer.

ups has been having some major delays in my area this past month..... my last 3 packages were 2 or 3 days late luckily they werent livestock just some dry goods etc....
fed ex has always been early like 8am here...;)

I've had good and bad experiences with all companies. I tend to like FEDEX more then UPS. I guess because I use them more often and I usually get my packages early in the day. With UPS I get my packages around 6pm. As for the USPS I used to work there so I know what goes on behind the scenes. Just wished their tracking program was better and more up to date.

Ive had problems/delays with all of them also. Fedex is the only one that actually lost a package of mine the first time I used them.
I just use whatevers cheaper now and cross my fingers lol.

UPS is cheaper if you use this place

Ship Your Aquatics - Professional Shipping for Fish, Corals, and other Aquatic Animals

I just had a chalice frag shipped to me this way. The seller said he just had to print out the label and bring the package to UPS.
I got it around 10am.

kass

same here. no probs with fedex but 0 for 3 with my last UPS shipments. 2 different ones ended up at a house down the street and one never made it even though it was on the truck @ 7am for delivery and it was on a friday. in other words all dead corals on monday. and i have a big address sign on my front fence!

ill sell not extremly valueable corals 1st and use ups and the aquatic site ..see how shipping goes then start selling the nicer 1s
