Whats your favorite Alk test kit?

no one like red sea pro? I have both salifert and red sea but i just use the red sea one because i get the same results and there is only one fluid involved instead of 2 with the salifert

Putting the 4 extra drops with salifert is still faster and less steps then using that hand tool thing, and I really, really, REALLY hate those vials on a magnetic stirrer, magnet gets stuck when trying to take it out every time and it's several times more expensive

well yea, def dont use the hand tool, just hold the vial in one hand and stir while dropping the solution in. Idk just like having to do one thing every time

I use Salifert to check my Hanna which is always off by more than .7
Hanna Alk reagents are all over the place.
I can stir, it's not that hard to do.

does the Hanna usually read Higher or Lower than the Salifert?

Thank you. I'm on the fence with Hanna. I like their po4 checkers but the others I've tried seem like more work than their worth. I haven't tried the alk though to be fair.

The DKH Hanna is actually faster and easier than the PO4 Hanna because the reagent is a liquid, no sachet to deal with. I returned the Nitrate meter after watching the youtube instructions AFTER purchasing it.......no thanks.

That's good to hear. I wouldn't even consider the po4 easy, but the low range accuracy is worth it.

I use the Hanna HI772. I find it is easy, fast and don't have to deal with matching colors to a chart.

Hanna all day long. I have used many kits but the digital (near instantaneous) readout on the Hanna just blows my mind.

The Hanna reagents can vary with each batch. From what I’ve seen it’s usually between 0.1 to 0.3. I’ve checked Salifert against Hanna and the readings are very close.

The HR nitrate is super easy. Pretty much the same as the ulr phosphate

I regularly use Red Sea Pro, Salifert, and Hanna. They are all pretty easy to use. Red Sea Pro and Salifert are both titration end point tests. You have to decide when the color end point is reached and that is a bit subjective but it is reasonably consistent in my experience, The Hanna is based on a spectrophotometer and it gives a digital read out. So it would seem to be ”objective”. Based on the tests: Salifert would seem to be plus or minus .3 DKH, Red Sea Pro .2 DKH and Hanna .1 DKH. So it would appear that Hanna is the Winner. In my experience, over time all the tests seem to show about the same accuracy. On a cost basis, Salifert is the cheapest. The results for Red Sea Pro and Hanna usually are pretty close to each other. Salifert reads almost 1 DKH higher. But that is not what is important. What I look for is change from the baseline.
