What's your favorite sand-dwelling reef fish? Could be anything at all, but preferably something that'd be visible in a 6'+ tank.

I'm looking for something that will roam around the sandbed and show some interesting behaviors. Not necessarily looking for something to keep it clean but that would be a bonus!

Take care,
Drew

I really like jawfish, but they do make a mess.
Don't they always make their hole at the front of the tank and only make a mess in a 6 inch(ish) area?

None of these are going to roam around but I agree jawfish are really cool. One of my favorite things in a reef is a prawn goby with a pistol shrimp. Either of these are likely to make a mess.

I have 3 jawfish and a diamond goby. They are all sand dwellers and the goby cleans! They are fun to watch. Had the goby bury one jawfish when he was to close to the goby's home. Everyone is fine but was great to watch. ;Woot;Hilarious

I agree with the jawfish. They are not roaming fish but make up for it in personally and watching them rearrange small rocks around their burrow.

I like most blennies. The way they scoot around is hilarious IMO

I have a black cap jawfish he’s pretty fun to watch. He doesn’t make to much of a mess. Doesn’t come out to far to eat but he’s always watching everything. Dustin

That vid is hilarious. I love how the Diamond Watchman Goby even tries to bury the Jawfish by sweeping sand in with it's tail.

I've had several varieties of blenny and goby sand diggers. Very interesting, but man, they make a big mess.

This time 'round, I went with a bi-color goatfish. Doesn't so much 'dig' in the sand, as just stir the surface. Interesting behavior. They're hunting worms and pods... not going to help you out with algae, but they do a good job of keeping the surface layer turned over. Doesn't make near the mess as some sand dwellers do... of course, they don't stay small, either.

That vid is hilarious. I love how the Diamond Watchman Goby even tries to bury the Jawfish by sweeping sand in with it's tail.

I also get a chuckle out of watching the little clown. He looks like he's attempting to play peacemaker and calm the diamond goby down....to no effect!

Agree with everyone on jawfish. Jawfish are great. Give them small empty snail shells & watch them use one as a door. They will open it in the morning and close it late at night. The rest of shells, rubble they will use in and around their burrow.
