What's your method for attaching corals to your rock work?

How do you attach corals to your scape? Super glue? Epoxy? Both? Something else? Tell us how you do it. (Pics are worth bonus points! )

I've found in my short reefing experience, if I only use glue - my coral will inevitably get knocked off by one of my asterea snails. It's happened at least 4 times already. I've switched to using glue > epoxy > glue. This provides bear indestructible stability and stickiness. Not had a problem since.

I've been using the "Glue Sandwich" method for years. First I add superglue GEL to the bottom of the frag, then I add JB Waterweld, then more superglue gel. Attach to rock and enjoy!

I haven't had snails knock corals off, but I've definitely knocked a few over myself ;Facepalm I like being able to move my corals easily if I want to re-scape, but once (or if) I'm happy with everything I can see using your method to make sure everything stays put!

I had been using JB Waterweld, but got some free TLF Aquastik recently and found I prefer the Aquastik. It's less smelly and a bit more tacky, I think.

I recently tried out Tunze Coral gum. It's a bit messy and I ran carbon afterwards as it does release a fine silt in the tank when applying it, but it seems to be holding up fine.

Gorilla super glue gel. I haven't had anything come loose yet, but also not difficult to break the bond if I need to dip or move.

For me, just glue. But it took a while of using Home Depot gorilla glue gel to realize NOT ALL SUPER GLUES ARE CREATED EQUAL. I kept having corals fall off the rock work , and started experimenting with different brands. My favorite now is the Ecotech glue.. it works way way better. Love that stuff.

I've tried all the Cryano glues, but nothing is better the ICY GEL (Made by Bob Smith Inc)


It's super thick, you get extra tips in the box, and it's consitant, no-clog if you properly use it.
Fair price too. Best to buy two smaller tube than one bigger.

I keep mine in the Fridge to make it last 5x longer. All Cryano glues go bad if exposed to age/air.

I do mix it with Epoxy Putty (layers), when doing bigger rock gluing work.

kidding, ICY GEL (maroon tube) has been the best for me.

but I’ve found if you don’t work fast enough with it underwater it makes it harder to get a nice bond from the frag plug to the rock, so you gotta be quick and decisive.

Small dab of super glue on the base, epoxy over the glue, another small dab of glue on top of the epoxy. I probably just suck, but i have not had success with either glue or epoxy on their own, but together i've had no issues.

I tried it all but found a product called EpoPutty. Not had coral come loose since starting using it.

Superglue, it’s hit or miss and usually have to attempt several times before the frag sticks. My cleaner shrimp loves then hates superglue. He’s glued his pinchers shut a couple times. The corals get a break when he does lol…..keeps the shrimp honest.

I'm still in the very early stages of reefing, only a few months in. I decided to drill several 10mm holes all over my scape. Now I super glue frag plugs to any new corals, and move them around at will, both for the corals benefit and aesthetics.
The plugs are a fairly tight fit.
