What's Your Nemesis Coral?

I think if you've been doing this long enough you probably have that coral that you struggle with a little more than others. Whether it's getting it to live, or getting it to look nice. Ideally if you're posting here you've tried these corals with different setups and systems and conditions.

I've got two... I can color up most corals pretty well, but no matter the system I always have a hard time with getting a rich purple with GARF Bonsai. I've also killed a fair amount of A. Sarmentosa over the years and they just don't seem to like me, but I think they were mostly wild colony frags.

So, what are yours? Also, if you care to speculate, what's the reason for your struggles Maybe we can find some commonality between us.

Mine used to be WT Tierra Del Fuego... started to do well for me a few years ago - have patience since some of them can just take off. I have been struggling to get a super-old frag of Atlantis Rosy Red Granulosa to grow and color.

Coralline is my true nemesis.

I've struggled at times with pearlberry and it does seem like it can be sensitive, but hawkins grows fast and is hardy for me.

Purple monster, my canary. As if it wasn’t one of the slowest growing acro’s, but super sensitive to water parameter fluctuations.

Scrape it constantly... takes over. It hates me and I hate it. I pull it out in sheets sometimes...

Xenia’s are my nemesis. For a few years entering the hobby I couldn’t keep them alive. Switched to a 120 and couldn’t keep them dead. I’m talking Xenia’s growing on hair algae clumps. Xenia’s everywhere. The entire right side of my tank looked like a giant rave. I think I’ve had some success with my last few clean as the rocks I bleached and scraped haven’t shown any Xenia regrowing, but there are two small colonies on the back overflow, just waiting to come back with a vengeance I’m sure.

When I first read the title of this thread about nemesis coral I thought that it was it was going to be a discussion about the Jason Fox Nemesis Chalice. Oops!

Cant grow coralline ive seeded the tank countless time just pops on the glass but nothing on the rock work

My biggest problem is with pocillopora. I had a polyp bailout about a year ago, and now I have pocillopora everywhere. I can keep it chopped back, but can't get it to go away.

Red dragon. Got one from a frag pack stn. Then got a colony for a free and rtn on me even i cut the rtn part.

ORA Hawkins and Pearlberry for me. Never been able to keep either long-term

I bought a hawkins for 70$ the other day.. well like 2 weeks ago ? And it bleached and skin started to peal off... in 24 hrs of having it..

And thrn suddenly after lile 5 days it stopped pealing and it got color.. now 90% of the skin healed and its a teal color now.

This pic is a week old so it looks even better now... i even broke 3 small pinky nail peices off it by accident and they are growing too.. i glued em on my rock and i lucked out.

I heard hawkins csn be really hard.. and i almost lost mine.. this is one fragile coral for sure.. itll break even from the slightest miss touch
