I have a bonded pair of wheelers gobys with their red banded shrimp in QT. Everyone seems to be eating (although the gobys are hard to tell sometimes). I haven’t been turning the light on to avoid stress, but wanted a good look at them since they have been in for a few days.

One of the gobys looks like it has jaundice. Pretty yellow in the “white” stripes. She also looks like her fins are separated. One of the front Fins last night and maybe a tailfin today. I say the “shredding” look.

Can you see anything? Think I need to treat? Thinking possible bacterial infection? Treat with kanaplex or furan2? If so, take the shrimp out and treat all or take her out and treat her alone? I have a hospital tank I can set up, I have a coral/invert tank. Was just hoping not to break the bond with the Gobys and the shrimp.
Do you think a dish of sand would be helpful?

There is a lot of stress going on, so your thinking that the liver is shutting down?

Mix some kanoplex with focus with the food. Also add a multivitamin to the mix.

I’m not sure that her liver is shutting down. It was just the best term I could use to describe her looking Yellow.

Can I feed kanaplex and furan with food with the shrimp or could that adversely effect him?

I dont know if fish would have jaundice like humans get and to be honest if the fish has liver failure...I doubt there is anything to do.

No, just go with the kanaplex and focus with the food.

Maybe I shouldn’t have used that term. Lol. I’m not sure it has anything to do with the liver. She is just looking more Yellow than white.

So if the red-banded shrimp gets the kanaplex it won’t hurt him?

Good question, and good challenge. You do have QT, and are they all together? I would suggest the least amount of antibiotic which would be metroplex with focus and citric acid for the natural help with the immune system.

Yes. They are all in QT. I was hoping to keep them altogether so I didn’t have to break their bond. I was hoping to do observation only QT. I do have a Corentine set up for curls and inverts only. I was going to go get my corals out of my other tank tomorrow and put them in. The shrimp could go in there, I would just have to separate him from the gobies. I also have another hospital tank that I could set up for just her if I need to.

I can’t tell if anything needs treated or not, could just be stress as mentioned? Sorry I’m not more help. I’m not sure I’d treat at all.

Yes, split the kids up. There is so much going on with the new tank, bring the fish back home, the cold weather and transport that there is a high stress situation.

I would move the shrimp before just about any treatment - the bonding should be just fine.

I think her color looks normal - not that I've seen a _lot_ of Wheeler's, but they're not pure white, usually some shade of ivory. I'd be perhaps a bit more worried about her fins - have you seen any sign of aggression?

No aggression that I have noticed. I think I’ll watch her for another day or two. We have been in the basement a lot (Where QT is) working. Tomorrow is back to our real jobs (boo), so the light will be out most of the day with a little window for mild daylight. Hopefully a couple days of rest will do her good! I’ll keep a close eye and watch for aggression. If she looks worse, I’ll treat and remove the shrimp.

Also - I used to dose vitamins all of the time. But haven’t been. Fish in QT I could see this being particularly helpful. Any you recommend?

I use Selcon, which is primarily Omega-3 and HUFA type oils and fats. Along with a wide variety of frozen and dry prepared foods, the fish seem to be staying pretty healthy. @jsker is the man to talk to about vitamins, for sure!

Yes! That’s what I was using before! I couldn’t remember the name of it. It’s ordered.
I feed Mysis, flakes, pellets, rods, Larry’s, clams, krill, etc. I try to mix it up.

Most wheelers shrimp gobies have yellow on them if I’m not mistaken.. I see nothing wrong with your pair from the pictures.

Feeding a vitamin as suggested won’t hurt anything. I would view any further treatment as being prophylactic for other unseen ailments.

Thanks so much. I am not familiar with these fish and there isn’t a whole lot online about them. But they are very cool and have neat personalities so far!
