So I'm at work earlier this afternoon and my apex sends me a message that my ph is dropping below 8. My ph never drops anywhere near 8 btw. I'm not able to leave and no one is at home so I kept monitoring it. At this point my orp is still ok. Awhile later. As the ph kept dropping, my orp started to drop as well. At this point I'm like, oh great something is really going on! By the time I got home, I'm expecting to see the fish all gasping and my coral all closed up as the ph had dropped to 7.5... I get in the house and ran over to the tank expecting the worst but here are my fish, all happy to see me and begging for food as usual and the coral look great! I walk around the tank and started inspecting and lo and behold, apparently the float switch for the ato was stuck and the water level had dropped leaving my probes almost out of the water. I quickly grab a gallon bottle of water and refill the sump to the proper level and miraculously my ph readings normalize a minute later. Who would have thought that the probes actually needed to be in the water to get an accurate reading???How would you have reacted in a situation like this?

Glad it was a non issue. What temp do you run at? I would freak out of I saw 84 on my temps

I live in the Caribbean so my tank fluctuates between 80 and 85 in the summer. In the winter months it stays in the high 70s. Alot of the areas that our fish come from get pretty warm in the daytime during summer months so our fish can handle those mid 80 temps with no problem. It's usually only for a few hours and usually only on the hottest days. We have some tropical waves moving through starting Thursday morning so that should bring the tanks down to the low 80s.

Sounds like a stressful drive home.

I'm glad it worked out, but why wait till you get home for peace of mind? Perhaps consider a wifi cam, so you can always see your tank, you can even talk to people in the room through the wifi cam. You can also show your tank to people from your phone with the cam....... just saying...

I have a Webcam but I only use it when we travel. I found that if I keep it on all the time I am always looking at it instead of working! Lol
