When I added this Umbrella Leather to my tank it was about 3" across. Now as you can see, it's grown several times over. FWIW the GSP was small when I added as well. I'm trying to keep that isolated to the large stone, but it's work.

I like the leather, but it's casting too much shade for anything to grow underneath it. I'm thinking of offering the leather for sale, but I have never shipped a coral before. Not sure how removal would go either. Pry it off with a blade?

What would you do?

TIA

IMO it's best to leave it attached if you're going to move it. I would also find a local reefer who wants it and hand deliver it With an animal that big there's going to be copious amounts of slime which are likely going to be problematic if it's left in shipping water very long.

I have to get me one now haha this looks awesome

Looks like where it’s attached at the base is pretty small so you should be able to pry it off or cut it off with minimal damage. Could also try fragging it.

Thanks for the comments guys. I do think I can pry it off the rock if I'm careful. Although it's big when full, it does shrink down pretty small periodically. Maybe I'll post in classified for pick up only?

I actually bought 2 at the same time and have another one that is growing too large also. But, that one has 2 small babies growing next to the base. If I can move the adult leathers, I would let the babies grow out in there place.

Like others have mentioned frag it. using the rubber band and small rock method. Definitely need to be running carbon for an operation that size.

Razor that head right off and elastic band it to a rock. Sell it in a couple weeks when attached. The stalk will grow another head. Carbon will be needed.

I really like this idea!

When you start to cut it will push all the water out of it's body so it shrinks down. just keep going, it will be fine. I've done this many times when I had leathers.
Would it be better to cut it when it's shrunk down? It cycles pretty often. It could be full in the morning and then deflated later that day.

Doesn't matter, either way it will be small and tight. As soon as the razor starts cutting it goes in defence mode.
