Ok so this a newbie mishap if ever there was one! Word of warning if you have nems...watch what you are doing! Was stirring my sandbed at the back of my tank and basically laid my forearm in one of my RBTAs...and she let me know she did not appreciate it! Lol I think I will live but thought I would share, just as a friendly reminder!! 20160618_131107.jpg

I got tagged several months ago by a small carpet nem. Never again am I going near one of those things without gloves.

There were more blisters on my wrist too that you can't see in the pic.

Holy moly lol note to self...do NOT touch carpet nems! I have 4 maxi-minis....I think I will invest in some long gloves!

This is quite a bad reaction, I've been lucky with all the nems I've had that I've never been stung while bumping into them. It's usually the female clown that leaves the welts on me haha.

My clowns were pretty young, as they are getting older...I have watched Persephone menacing a hermit crab that was too close so I assume it is only a matter of time until its me!

My clown is very standoffish and downright mean. Unfortunately that means where my anenome is located(right in the front of the tank) there's a lot of algae on the glass. It is a pretty big anemone too.

My nem got HUGE when I first got it, like dinner plate size...then a few months later she gifted me with a clone! Fortunately they like to stay on one rock formation to the back so they are easier to avoid!

I have accidentally touched maxi-minis before and haven't noticed a reaction to them. But, I have a manager who is unaffected by carpets yet blisters from maxi-minis lol.

Carpets are the only nems that make me blister and swell. BTA, maxi-minis, condys, long tentacles, none of them cause me to have a reaction. That particular time I got stung the nem was touching me for maybe 5 seconds. Although I did find out during that experience that coconut oil really helps calm anemone stings!

I looked at your tank thread those RBTA's are fantastic, I wish mine would split but I'm 99% sure that sebae anemones don't reproduce by fission. I believe mine can get up to 30" across so its got a lot more growing to do. I guess that means bigger tank in the future!

Great tip! I hope I never have to use it though.

Thanks! My original nem came to me already fantastic! She is a captive clone from SaltyUnderground. I was a little afraid that the clone would wander all over my tank but they stay right together. It is really quite lovely when they open up huge together!

Yes some people are more sensitive to anemones. I have had my hands on many different types of anemones over the years and have never been stung or at least had no reaction.
