Hi im rob
Im new to the hobby of saltwater fish. I have got myself
a resun dms400-t5 and it has bin up and running for
5 weeks now. In there iv got 2 yellowtail damsels and2
hermet crabs,i also have 3 other crags which came with
LR. I was woundering wen i can start to add some coral
and what type should i be thinking of getting. Any advice
would be welcome ;)

Id try some soft corals, maybe a few mushrooms, see if they make it. Then slowly work you way into zoas, most of the cheaper zoas are very hardy. I wouldnt recomend adding any lps or sps for a few months if youv never kept anything before. Especially sps, wait till you plenty of coraline algae growing on the glass is a good sign of some alright parameters. Basically time is the key, make sure your tank is stable before you put expensive LPS and SPS in there.

How long has the tank been cycling ? And what are your chemical reading - Ammonia , nitrite, nitrate, cal, KH, salinty, ph, mag, phosphate, temp ... All these are important. If you are way over cycling the tank (months) and all readings match those required for a coral then you can try a few hardy corals.

I agree check your water parameters before investing in corals. Go slow and let the tank adjust to to anything thing you add. Most inportant when raising corals do not overfeed your fish. Corals like pristine water conditions and fish can foul the water quickly if you are on top of it. Start with easy to grow corals and learn from them before investing in expensive ones that are hard to keep.

Its exciting to start a new tank.....its like a blank canvas. Add corals and fish too fast and the canvas will become blank again and your investment will go out the window. Take it slow and read a lot about levels, lighting, water flow rates, water changes, etc......and don't be afraid to ask questions.

+1 to most of the above. Take it slow and start with soft stuff.. you don't necessarily need to start with shrooms though if you don't specifically want to.. they can take forever to adapt to a new tank sometimes, which can give new reefkeepers the idea they are doing something wrong.. zoas and palys are also good for starting.. my main advice would be to stay away from sps for a while and try to have a plan for your tank..
