When can I add corals

Hi! I’ve had my fluval evo tank for about a year now, and I’m finnaly getting over the uglies! I want to know how long after the Algae clears I can start adding corals?

Hmmm..uglies should’ve cleared within days or weeks. What re your water parameters? And algae can be caused from several reasons. In any case get a clean up crew(cuc) and are you using RODI water? And are you dosing with any supplements?

You can start now….I was adding corals at 4 months, what’s your parameters? Fish?

Now! Imo algae is there because there are nutrients ready for corals

The answer varies as you can see from some of the replies. Once you have reached stability, corals can be added. People can have stable reef tanks if they are experienced within weeks, or it can take longer. At the end of the day, corals will survive given there aren't any crazy swings in the core parameters that will stress them out and kill them.

Something has to compete with the algae... Might as well be corals. As long as we're talkin gha (not dinos) they compete at the same level is my rudimentary understanding. Clear some out (manually), add some coral to fill the nutrient uptake void created by algae removal. Eventually coral will dominate nutrient uptake in the system. Just my thoughts... Good luck!

I mean if you can feed algae you can feed a coral!

Just wanted to add... Don't expect this to be instant/fast. The coral may take weeks until it's acclimated and comfortable to start growing. You'll have to (manually) keep the algae at bay during this time to give the coral a chance to get a foothold... Again, just a few more of my thoughts...
