I’m just done cycling and starting to add fish. When can I try some montis or other easy sps?

When your tank is ready LOL :D I agree with stylolvr, wait until you have some good coralline growth, then try something like a Montipora digitada, or a Montipora capricornis, and see how it goes. Wait until you see new growth on the Monti before moving forward with additional SPS.

Take your time

SLOW! Don’t waste your money right now until your rock is 10-20% covered in PURPLE or PINK coralline algae growth!!

also not until your ALK, Ca, and Mag are within SPS parameters and STABLE!!!!!!

tip: if you find a fellow reefer whose willing to give you a chunk of live rock (that’s covered in coralline) this will speed the process tremendously

DONT waste your $$$$$$!!!!

I started a tank last year and killed many sps for about 6 months!

At 8-9 months my tank could handle montipora

at 10-12 months my tank could handle acro

^just so you have realistic expectation^

The real question you should be asking is how soon should I be expecting "the uglies" and how long should I be ready for them to last.

Unless this was a transfer with a lot of established rock, it's prob coming fairly significantly.

ideally you should wait but if u want u can test it out with some cheap and easy sps like stylo or birdnest. Go on offerup or facebook and you can get a frag for like 10 bucks maybe. I got a stylo and monti for free even. Its really your call on whether or not u want to test it out.

Live rock or dry rock?

Lot of people having success with SPS much earlier on when using live rock.
Are your parameters stable?
Once they're stable, why not try a piece?
IMO, a monti cap is a great tester.
