When coraline dies, does it leech nutrients?

I have a 300XL bare bottom and I hate the way it looks with the giant chunks of coraline that break off the bottom of the tank. I want to put sand just right over the top of it.

Not sure if this is a good idea or not, I don't know what happens when the coraline underneath dies.
 
You’ll be fine… :)

If anything, it could release a tad amount of cal, alk magnesium and trace elements.
