Saw this on facebook. I guess here people have always called them zoa dating back to when R2R was club-zoa and there probably are some regional differences but I remember a time 10+ years ago when everyone was calling them "zoos". Of course I wasn't really watching youtube videos / podcasts ect so everyone I heard talking would have been local. I still do call them "zoos" for short, but I also say zoanthaids not zooanthids.

A similar example which I used in the facebook post is my own name. Some people call me Andy for short despite the E in Andrew not making a Y sound. To me zoo is short for zoanthid even though they are not pronounced the same.

my thing ith it was that saying zoos isnt that much quicker than zoa.

im not sure what the point of that is? when was a richard ever a dick?
You mean diick. I would think that auto correct smart phones killed the zoos, it was always incorrect.

I do see the point your making with the “sound”.

But, if I personally ran into someone who said zoo and not zoa, I’d be like “wait, what coral?”
Well you haven't been around too many distributors from abroad then I guess lol, hands down the guy i get the craziest corals from always , you cant understand anything but the .......zoo , I just go with it , hes an awesome guy we have language barrier , but man the pieces I have got from not caring what he calls the things, we share the same love for the same thing that is universal .

"What are you going to do with all the time you saved by calling them "zoos" instead of "zoas"?

If you ask my fiancee, they're xylophones, so I dunno if zooanthinds is that bad.

I don’t know if it’s taboo, I’ll just assume that English isn’t your first language..
English isn’t my first language and I don’t call Zoanthis zoo. I call them Zoa.

As long as I’ve been in the hobby, I’ve heard zoas called zoos & no one tripped out, especially from old hobbyists when frag swaps were in parking lots & frags were displayed in coolers under natural sunlight. I’ve even posted packs for sale with the title “Z’s & P’s” aka zoas & palys, every zoa collector understood the title.
