I have been hooked since I was 9 1/2. I had a tiger Oscar named Lenny, this was in a 55 my neighbor gave me when I was about 10 I decided "nemos" were cooler. I read for ages and watched multiple YouTube videos on my dads computer, I started with a 29 gallon with a snowflake eel and a dwarf lion. I am only 15 and only have 5 years of saltwater experience, I'm continuing to learn more and for the past year have had a job helping at the lfs down the road, I don't know what I'd be doing other than school and sports if it wasn't for my tanks.

I got my first reef/corals in January ... I knew over a year ago I was going to do a reef tank so I kept a Fish only live rock saltwater tank for a year to get the tank 'ready'.

I am from Clearwater Beach Florida but now live in the country in TN so you can say I am missing the 'sea life' so that was a main reason for the tank. My dream is to go scuba diving to coral reefs so while I work hard and save up money for a vacation once a year I will have the rest of the year to keep and enjoy my little slice of the sea in our bedroom reef tank.

I love hearing about how passionate you are at such a young age for the Aqua world.

8 years ago. I actually recently posted a picture timeline in the introduction forum to reintroduce myself

I started pre-internet, back in the dark ages, late 70's or early 80's (been awhile), started with an undergravel filter. Killed a few fish before I figured it out.

Did you have a saltwater tank? Or reef? What's the biggest thing you've seen change regarding live stock?

20 years ago when I was 15, I started out with a hundred gallon shark tank. I'd catch 6" leapard sharks with squid tenticles in newport back bay in california. keep them till they were about a foot or two release and catch more. Now I live in Alabam so I'm settling for a reef tank.

I started out sometime in the early 90's. I walked into a pet store and saw a Royal Gramma and knew in that instant that I had to have a saltwater tank. My first fish....yep, a Royal Gramma!!!

I started with fish only tanks. Back then there wasn't to much variety in the livestock (at least at the stores I was visiting). Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing any inverts back then. Now you have row after row (or page after page) of choices.

How long did it live? My first fish were clownfish......they lasted right up to the point the ammonia spiked. Learned about cycling the hard way.

I have been in for 4 years. I always wanted salt growing up but we could not afford it. Now I know why LOL! But I am addicted.

I would not be able to afford it if my neighbor didn't give me the 55. And being 15 not to many places hire kids my age. They have many restrictions on pay so my lfs pays me 8$ in store credit for every hour I work :). Therefore 100% of my money goes to the tanks

Started with a 29 gallon. Just for a pair of clowns. Thought my NEW little daughter will love this! Then we went to a local coral club meeting....... Well that did it. Some of the members told us when our tank was ready we could have some coral. (back then Xenia was sweet!) Now we have a 75 gallon (lps and sps) tank 40 gallon sump, 15 gallon Soft coral tank. And im planning on trying my hand at clown breeding............ Were planning our next Upgrade to! Might be a 200 gallon .:xd:

Got my first reef tank in 09. A client of my wife's was sick of it and wanted a good home for the 75 gallon tank with some corals, a couple of fish and lots of live rock. I said no several times, I didn't want the work. Now of course it's all a labor of love and wondering why I waited so long. I've kept fish since I was 4 years old, winning a goldfish with the ping pong ball toss at a carnival. I was hooked. That's cool about keeping small leopard sharks then letting them go.
