I've been fragging for about a year now, and got started because some of my old colonies were reaching sizes that were just too big. Because of that, I've only been fragging large colonies, from 6" to 18". After I started fragging I got hooked and have never been more involved with my tank. It's opened up a whole new aspect of the hobby that I'm loving. Along with that, Ive justified to myself and to my wife that I can get the more pricey frags I've always wanted ($50-100 range so far) with the idea that I'd make my money back by selling some frags once they grow.

At what point do you feel it's appropriate to begin fragging a colony? Do you wait until there's a certain number of branches a certain size, wait till the coral is 3-4" across, or some other signal that the colony is ready to frag?

Although I'm not in a rush to begin fragging, I would like to get a frag or two from a few colonies so I can reinvest that money into some more nice frags that can start growing out.

A: Whenever I have to to prevent fighting or chemical warfare :)
