Wondering if anyone in reefing has been able to say “okay my tank looks good I will let it be for a while and just enjoy it.” Everytime I say I am going to let it be for a bit it last a couple days and then it’s back to switch this up add this coral etc. Anyone ever just let it be?

What if your were out riding your bike and then just decided to stop riding and enjoy the ride?

I haven’t added coral or fish in months. Led it alone for the most part then phosphates started climbing and I got bubble algae somehow. So now I’m tinkering.

When I first started out, I took everything so seriously. I used to control every factor in my tank. Then I asked myself, why do I need to worry about this certain thing, what’s the significance? Is it truly important, or is it me seeking perfection. So I let things go. I did what was necessary, but I stopped doing a lot of things and let nature take its course. This hobby can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. As enjoyable or stressful as you make it. Let things happen. It’s a piece of nature. Enjoy watching it take its course. The good and the bad. Only take action when necessary. Excluding feeding, dosing, changing filters, and cleaning glass, I’ve gone weeks without even putting my hand in the tank and tinkering. Just ask yourself, Is this important to take care of and stress about?

Edit: as said above. Always find time to enjoy your tank. I spend more time enjoying my tank than I do maintenance, which makes maintenance a lot easier and rewarding.

You kinda have to enjoy it in between tinkerings lol. Every other hobby I have (hunting, dirt bikes, guitar) requires some form of regular tinkering or maintenance in order for me to enjoy it. You enjoy the small successes and improvements as you tinker with it more.

Does an artist ever feel their piece is done? ;-) My tinkering is the tool that sculpts my tank. :-)

Nope! Over here, my tank is absolutely perfect at all times, and I don't do anything but one thing that leads to a bunch of other things........:p
