When is a Chiller needed?

Chillers are pretty much only needed if your tank starts to warm up too much..usually during the summer during peak light hours. You can also get one if you hate money and want to buy one just in case haha..unless you keep your house pretty warm or you have some pretty serious lighting on your tank you can usually keep it cool with PC fans, though if you don't have a canopy that may not be the best route...

Well summer I keep the house at 68 and I have ai sols so I think ill be in good shape lol.

Unless I get the sudden urge to waste money on something not needed lol

Will also come in super handy if you have a heater malfunction and try to boil your tank...

Lol yea you should be fine..i keep mine about 68 as well and I had a 250MH about 2inches from the water (because I'm stupid lol) and i never heated up to the point of negative effects..

And yea especially with a controller..it will let you know if you need one haha

Or if you have four ovens over your thank like I do 4 20k 400w metal halides I have a 3/4 HP commercial chiller on my 240 but with standard lighting I'd save the $$$$

How warm does your water get with the lights only two inches away?

I am also running AI Sols, a 68 degree house, and I live in North Ga. I have not needed a chiller. When I ran halides I had a large fan rigged on the sump to cut on via the controller when the temp got to high. Worked like a champ!

if you find a good deal on a chiller buy it for a good insurance policy...you never know when your home a/c will go out and how long the delay will be before the home a/c will get repaired.

personally i see people say i can run home a/c to keep tank temp down and dont need a chiller. why not buy a chiller run home temp higher and just cool the tank. why cool the whole house when it is not needed especially if no one is home. keep the wear and tear to a chiller compared to the home hvac. cheaper to replace a chiller especially when everyone is selling them used now for cheap than to repalce a compressor on a hvac

when fans can't keep up cooling! Or RO/Di ice cubes become a pain! haha
Sounds like you will be set and no need for a chiller
