when you are maintaining a reef tank? at what point is it "finished" this dosent necessarily mean moving on, starting a new tank, but when you're satisfied with the fish and corals you have & you just let them flourish & grow. i feel like ive reached that point with my tank. i have a lot of kenya tree & zoanthids, & my mollies are breeding. i want to add some other kind of toothcarp & some more female mollies, but otherwise i feel like my tank is complete.

The second I realized GSP was a horrible idea and now required replacing the rock work.

Basically, when I die I'm done maintaining.
Hopefully, it all goes to someone that can appreciate it.

U sound like ur there. Enjoy the work you put in. I’m close as well. Just letting if fill in. May add a special coral if I can but Happy with results thus far.

Agree - its never done. Or at least id like to be at that point if it exists. Id like to get rid of some corals and change up my fish or just change tank lol. Never done
It can take a while to know where u are going but when u get there u just know, ya know? Lol

@Bucs20fan is right. It’s never finished. “when you're satisfied with the fish and corals you have & you just let them flourish & grow” ig is one way you can tell if you did “finish” but you never “finish” you know? I hope that makes sense.

There’s always something…even when you think the journey is complete, something just happens to prove you wrong. And if you do “finish” “you just know ya know?”

A great question! For me, the answer is never. I am always adding, tweaking, and changing things around. I am always trying something different. I am always trying to do things better and get better results while at the same time trying to keep the water chemistry and environment stable and constant.

It really is never, there is always some coral or fish that will catch your eye. and then you have to have.

In the words of the great Desmond Doss "Come on Lord help me get one more"
Ik most people say ok this is what I’m getting and I’m not getting more and I’m not getting less but then they see something “special” to them and your just like “yea I have room for one more”

@Piscans - are we separating say operator error conditions of change from say - hey let me add another coral here or another fish will work well? Not sure my question makes sense
Well, I must be done then.
I can't fit another coral in there. I need to trim what's in there now because I see signs of stuff receding because of over shadowing.
Now my wife wants me to go to the Boston reefer show. Ugg.
I got my eye on a 150 though.
Oh wait, I'm not done! :)

2nd one. the operator error is virtually constant. i feel like if you get to the bare necessites it can be somewhat removed, but if you dump a whole can of fish food in your tank, no matter what you do, you're screwed (unless you have like a 10000 gallon tank and you feed a can of fish food on a daily basis)
