Seems like a good time to bring up the fact that using vinegar to clean pumps damages plastic.

Lets not pretend corals are immune to heavy metals. There are hundreds of examples of tanks with coral deaths that people think is due to rusting magnets and their associated metals.

Fixed that for you. Every case is different but the majority of rusty things in your tank are a red herring and STN is due to stress from Disease/Parasites, Fish Nipping, Flow, and Parameter stability. OP said he started dosing N and P and it started happening. It's definitely the rusty impeller though.

I run carbon for 4 hrs each day. Well water here is high in iron, I run whole house filter which includes carbon another rodi for my ato and salt make up water my triton test came normal for metals just low on potassium. I would think that carbon would pull out a lot of metals

Rusted magnet definitely killed 20+ anemones and some zoas in my wife’s 99 gallon. Get it out ASAP and run something that removes heavy metals. We have an exact idip that tests for heavy metals. It’s been a life saver!

Bought a brand new vortec mp10qd, about a year later my coral started going down hill quick, after water changes testing and alot of other things, come to find out the magnet on the wet side was completely rusted out. First and last vortec pump I will ever buy.

lost two big birdnest colonys first, then started losing multiple Acro’s. Montiporas are dying,large holywood stunner is also at gone. This al happened within 2 weeks.

found my NPR rusted badly. Waiting on ICP results.
