When should I clean filter?

I got a fluval 307 and just put in live rock yesterday. The tank has been with water for a week. When should I start cleaning the filter. I know about sump will get one soon.

Okay thank you. Do i clean it while bacteria is seeding or not?

Everytime you clean the filter spongs you'll be killing bacteria. If you're using it for nitrification there should be some media designed for it that you would only clean in water from the aquarium. I'd urge you to get a sump as soon as possible, lot less maintenance.
