I have a 20g, two clownfish, a cleaner shrimp, various Zoanthids, and a frogspawn. I have had it for about a year now, when is the right time to get an anemone and what anemone should I get?

ive read some say you should wait at least 6 months for your tank to establish but youve gone past that what type of lighting do you have thats also important if it were me i would get a bta

You just have to be comfortable with the fact that an anemone will move around, likely to a spot that you don’t find visually appealing.

Also they can sting corals as they move. Finally, once they pick a spot they can be near impossible to remove without harming the anemone.

In nano tanks all of these things can be a pain to deal with, but not to say it isn’t doable. You just have to make sure you are aware of the challenges.

Here’s a great video on BTAs

I have basically the exact same setup. 2 clowns and a cleaner shrimp (few emerald crabs as well) zoanthids and frogspawn/hammer coral.
I waited 5 and a half months (only because I knew my tank was stable) and i got a green bubble tip, he has been super happy and bubbly so I think you are okay to get one!
However I moved yesterday and he moved to a place I dont like and isnt acting to happy

You can get it now if your tank is stable and well lit and has good flow. A bubble tip would be a good choice. They come in many colors. They do move as stated above. Be sure to cover your power heads.

What light are you using? Cover powerheads. Bta is about the only hosting nem I would house in a 20gallon. The others get far bigger. Try to go with an aquacultured bta if possible, or wait to find one.

Your tank has been set up long enough, however, if you put an anenome in there, it may move around before settling down, if it comes in contact with your corals, particularly the frogspawn, they may sting & kill one or both. That being said, a bta is the one I would go with, good luck

Also you need to be prepared for the Bta eventually splitting. That’s what happened to me in a 50 gallon and bc of that I now have fewer places to put coral sine the bta will sting the coral. You should consider how will you manage in a 20 gallon nano to find room for coral with 2 or more bta. It not like you can just remove one unless u take the whole rock it’s on out.
